Founded in 1915, Peking University hospital is the earliest national hospital and one of the first clinical medical schools in China. Peking University hospital, formerly the affiliated clinic of Beijing medical school, was approved by the ministry of education of the republic of China. In 1946, Peking University was merged with Beijing medical college, hence the name "Peking University hospital". After the adjustment of the department, Peking University and Beijing medical university merged again in 2000, and the hospital was renamed "the first hospital of Peking University". It became the central health care base hospital in 2008.
For more than 100 years, our hospital has a number of domestic pioneering professional disciplines and the first diagnosis and treatment technology in China, such as the domestic pioneering department of pediatrics (1929), urology (1946), nephrology (1950), general hospital cardiovascular ward (1950s), pediatric neurology (1961), etc. Improvement in the domestic leader in intravenous anesthesia (1951), first heart surgery (s), kidney transplants (1960), the introduction of iol implantation (1983), coronary heart disease interventional therapy (1986), the first autologous blood recovery machine (1997), minimally invasive incision lung transplantation (2005), percutaneous ventricular revascularization (2013), etc., made outstanding contributions to medical career in our country.
Pku hospital has 36 clinical departments, 16 medical technology departments and 6 research institutes. It has 64 wards and 1,574 beds. More than 10,000 outpatient visits are made every day, more than 86,000 patients are admitted annually, and more than 44,000 surgeries are performed. The hospital has more than 3,500 employees, including 260 senior titles and 350 deputy senior titles. Professor guo yinglu of the department of urology of our hospital was elected as the academician of the Chinese academy of engineering in 1999.
Our hospital has a complete range of disciplines and a high level of comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. It has 19 key clinical specialty projects of the national health commission, 12 leading units and participating units of national key disciplines, and 12 national drug clinical research bases. Our hospital is A class A designated hospital of medical insurance, providing medical security services for nearly 20 million insured people in the city. At the same time, our hospital also undertakes the public medical treatment for more than 60,000 people in the city, as well as the cadre health care task accounting for one eighth of Beijing. Among the patients in our hospital, 1/3 are difficult patients from all over the country.
As the oldest affiliated clinical medical college of Peking University, over the past 40 years, our hospital has cultivated more than 3,100 undergraduates and 3,300 postgraduates, including more than 1,700 master's degree students, more than 1,400 doctor's degree students and nearly 70 postdoctoral students. At present, our hospital undertakes a large number of teaching tasks every year, including more than 280 8-year clinical students in the hospital, more than 580 graduate students in the hospital, and about 370 nursing students in the hospital. At the same time, our hospital also undertakes the heavy task of continuing education. Every year, more than 40,000 people take part in the training, further education, continuing education projects and various examinations of resident doctors in our hospital.
The scientific research level of our hospital has been the leading position in China for many years. In the past decade, our hospital has published more than 13,000 papers in total, and more than 2,600 papers have been included in SCI(scientific citation index), some of which have been published in international journals including New Engl J Med, Lancet, Blood, Am J Hum Genet and so on. It has been approved more than 2,300 national, ministerial, municipal, university-level, university-level and horizontal projects, with an approved fund of over 900 million yuan. He has won more than 70 science and technology achievement awards from the state, ministry of education, Beijing municipal government and Chinese medical association, among which he won one second prize of national science and technology progress award in 2016.
